Mung’ora’s degree is in property management. As an artist he is entirely self-taught. Inspired by his surroundings and everyday life, he has developed a sophisticated technique of photo-transfer and acrylic brushwork. His work records the lives of the people he regularly interacts with while going about his business in urban Nairobi.

He says of one series “it is an exploration of human migration and movement. Movement is an important part of our human rights yet this freedom is constantly curtailed in our modern society. The last few years have brought this to the fore with travel restrictions being imposed through the pandemic..”. and he goes on to say; “Nairobi, being my home and place of work, it is an important inspiration. Documenting the urban landscape and daily activities helps in my understanding of the city and my place within it.”.

Now represented in New York by Montague Contemporary, his first solo show was in 2021 titled 'Gathering of Small Fires'. The same year he held 'Sacrifice Pasture', a solo show at One Off Contemporary Art Gallery in Nairobi.

Mung'ora is currently studying for a degree in anthropology at Nairobi University.  His work is extensively collected by I&M bank, the current Ambassador for Switzerland to Kenya and a prominent Kenyan film director.  All the signposts point to a promising career ahead.
